On an intellectual level, I understand the concept of evil, I usually recognize injustice when I see it, and my heart aches for those who encounter great hardship and loss. Yet, because I have not experienced personally the worst things that the world has to offer, my default conception of the world around me is that it is a place of relative safety, a place which is essentially just if not always fair, and a place where I feel comfortable.
